Calf Slimming
What is Calf slimming and how does it work?
Calf slimming is a great non-surgical treatment where neuromodulators (e.g. Botox and Dysport) are injected into the gastrocnemius muscle to reduce the prominence of the calf muscle. By reducing the calf muscle, the contour and definition of the calves are softened and smoothed. The advantage of this treatment is that it does not require surgery, is completed within one hour, and has no scarring involved.
There is little to no downtime after this treatment. It is normal to feel slight discomfort and tenderness within the first 24 hours. Most patients are able to resume normal activity the following day after the treatment.
Who is a good candidate for calf slimming?
The ideal candidate for calf slimming are individuals who are dissatisfied with their calves because of their bulky or muscular gastrocnemius muscle. This is an extremely popular treatment among models, actors, and celebrities to achieve a desired calf slimming result without undergoing surgery.
How many units is needed for calf slimming?
Because the gastrocnemius muscle is a large muscle, it requires 100-200 units of Botox OR 300-600 units of Dysport to see the best results. Depending on the size of the calf muscle and the desired result with the treatment, patients may need up to 2 sessions of calf slimming treatments, spaced out 3-4 months apart.
How long do the results last?
Calf reduction with Botox and Dysport injections produces gradual, temporary slimming and may take up to 6-8 weeks from the day of treatment to see the best results. Once the desired result has been achieved, patients may see the results last for up to 6-9 months. The longevity of the result depends on how many sessions were completed and the patient’s lifestyle (highly active, exercises often).
What are the pre/post injection instructions?
There are generally little to no pre-injection instructions. We always recommend avoiding blood thinners to prevent bruising and to be in general good health. After the treatment, we recommend avoiding strenuous activity for the first 24 hours. Patients are able to resume normal activities immediately after the treatment.
