Turbinate

\ ˈtər-bə-nət \

Normal outgrowth on sidewall of nose which warm, humidify and filter the air through the nose. There are normally three in each nasal cavity – superior, middle and inferior. The inferior turbinate is the largest of the three and can sometimes contribute to an obstruction of the nasal airflow. Surgically turbinates can be modified to improve the symptoms of obstruction.
